The Fremantle City Dockers Junior Football Club welcomed many Parents, Players and Officials to the special event the “Turning on the Lights”. What a spectacular sight.

We recognised that we are meeting on Nyoongar Land, and acknowledge the Nyoongar people and traditional owners and elders of this Land, both past and present. We also extended that respect to the other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people present on the day.

A group of performers from the local Halo Leadership Group performed a welcome ceremony enjoyed by all. The Fremantle City Dockers JFC have entered into an agreement with the Halo Group to assist in the development of Indigenous talent

A Brief History of this Lighting Project:

In September 2008 the Fremantle Hawks submitted to the City of Fremantle an application for funding for arena lighting at Dick Lawrence Oval. Part proceeds of the funding application would come from the WAPC via “Cash in Lieu” from deferred POS. Submission costings were provided by our Y6s Manager Michael Auriemma’s City Light Holdings In November 2008 the Strategic and General Services Committee voted 4/2 in favour of funding. July 2010 Department of Sport and Recreation funding was approved for 1/3rd of the project, which now included upgrade of lighting for the Soccer club grounds. February 2011 site works commenced. 27 April 2011 “Lights On”

The Fremantle City Dockers Community thank the City of Fremantle and their Electrical Contractors, plus we take this opportunity to thank the ongoing facility support provided by Hilton Bowling Club and Fremantle United Soccer Club (the latter can thank us for initiating this project which has now provided them with upgraded lights, part self funded) and finally a BIG THANK YOU to our Sponsors, our dedicated Committee and Canteen and our biggest thanks to our teams of enthusiastic players without you we would not have a Club and especially to our parents and guardians without you we would not have any kids to turn up!! Three Cheers to our bright lights I now call upon David Crute from the Fremantle Football Club to make a presentation
